Inside - This is the upstairs living room at the Writers' House. Note the enclosed fireplace, which is typical of Finish houses and quite different from British ones.
Office - Irma's office at the university's Department of Cultural Affairs.
Finnish Gender Roles - The men tend the barbecue while the women try to prevent the small boys from eating worms.
Tufty - An actual, geuine (non-flying) red squirrel.
Church - This beautiful old church is at Petäjävesi, about 20 kilometers outside Jyväskylä (and pretty much a long way from anywhere). The Finns seem to think it good for their souls to travel a long way to church. The church dates from 1764 and is a Unesco World Heritage target.
Spire - Fascinating design here - it looks very organic.
Peeking - I wonder what those Christians get up to in there? (Photo by Irma Hirsjärvi)
Countryside - You can't go far in Finland without finding trees and lakes. (Photo by Irma Hirsjärvi)
